Two types of leaves for different laundry needs

Our basic clothes horse is made of two leaves, each designed for a different type of laundry:

  • Close‑rung leaf Rungs placed closer together, perfect for smaller items: socks, baby clothes, underwear, tea towels and other “smalls”.

  • Wide‑rung leaf Rungs spaced further apart, ideal for larger items: towels, sheets, jumpers and anything that needs more airflow.

This combination gives you a versatile drying rack that works beautifully for mixed loads. You can also add extra leaves to suit your household needs.

  • More durable — metal hinges loosen over time; screw holes widen with movement.

  • Long‑lasting — jute flexes without weakening the wood.

This method gives you a quieter, gentler, longer‑lasting piece of household furniture.


Do I need to treat the wood?

Not necessarily.

We use kiln‑dried timber, so the sap is dry and will not stain your clothes. Just allow the rungs to dry fully before folding the clothes horse away.

Over time, the wood may deepen slightly in colour — this is natural and does not affect performance.

Store your clothes horse in a dry, well‑ventilated space.

If you prefer a richer finish, we offer an optional Danish oil treatment.

 

Can I add extra leaves?

Yes, you can add additional leaves to suit your household needs. Choose between close‑rung leaves for small items or wide‑rung leaves for larger laundry.


What is the difference between the close‑rung and wide‑rung leaves?

  • Close‑rung leaf: ideal for socks, baby clothes, underwear, tea towels and other smalls.

  • Wide‑rung leaf: perfect for sheets, towels, jumpers and items needing more airflow.

The standard clothes horse includes one of each for maximum versatility.


Is it strong enough for heavy items?

Yes, the tulipwood uprights and pine rungs are designed to support everyday laundry, including towels, jumpers and bedding. Just distribute weight evenly across the rungs.

Yes, your clothes horse arrives fully assembled and ready to use.

 


Will the clothes horse fit in my home?

Yes, the standard two‑leaf clothes horse is designed to suit even small spaces.

In use, you will naturally bring the leaves together at a right angle, creating a stable structure with a modest footprint, ideal for bathrooms, landings, utility rooms or beside a radiator.


How long does it take for clothes to dry?

Drying time varies depending on:

  • fabric type and thickness

  • humidity

  • airflow

  • sunlight or warmth in the room

Most items dry within 6–24 hours. Light cotton dries quickly; heavier fabrics like towels or jeans may take longer.


Can the clothes horse be used outdoors?

Yes, it’s perfect for a sunny day.. Place it somewhere sheltered from strong wind, and bring it indoors once the wood is dry.
