A charming small jug from the Royal Worcester Historic Jugs Collection, commissioned by Compton & Woodhouse as part of a twelve‑piece subscription series for collectors. This is the Scratchcross Jug, a faithful reproduction of an original Royal Worcester design, created to celebrate the artistry and folklore woven through Worcester’s ceramic history.

Inspired by the Chinese and Japanese imported by The Dutch East India Company in the early Georgian era, the Scratchcross jug is decorated in a lively palette, with crisp detailing of the stylised flowers and the gentle sheen typical of Royal Worcester reproductions. Though originally intended as a collectible, it sits beautifully in a modern home, perfect as a sweet bud vase, a milk jug for weekend breakfasts, or simply as a decorative accent on a shelf.

A lovely piece for collectors, cottage‑style decorators, or anyone who enjoys small, characterful ceramics.

Notes on decoration

The decoration is applied using Worcester’s crisp overglaze technique, not hand‑painted, but true to the spirit of the original jug it reproduces. These collector pieces were created to offer a little Royal Worcester magic to enjoy at home, complete with certificate and descriptive leaflet.
